I just read your essay on the internet. It was not in a book or magazine or a newspaper. It was on the internet. I don't think it's true that we have no control or influence. Alone, certainly we don't have much, but together, of course we do and I don't mean protesting or writing your elected officials, I mean being a good parent, or spouse or friend, speaking the truth when we can...in anyway we can. The things you've written for as long as I've followed you have had an influence, maybe even on me, though I couldn't point to anything specific. For as long as there has been advertising, propaganda and civilization people have had to deal with distractions, with "bubbles," with bread and circuses. The internet, social media and the like can be harmful...but like most things they need to be mastered, not become our masters.
I read a headline the morning on my CTV ap stating the Liberals were 5 points ahead of the Conservatives. I was SHOCKED at my emotional/mental/physical reaction. It really surprised me. I first wondered if it was true, then was there anything I could do to FIX this. My next thought was THIS IS HARMING ME. I honestly do not know what to do with this. Disengage? Engage more? Ultimately, I do believe our times are in God's hands, but as history shows, there can be a heap of suffering foisted upon humanity in the meantime. For the record, I'm not confident that there is any political solution to solving trouble in the world, let alone Canada.
Dr. Christian, thank you for helping us all to better understand how we are being manipulated, deceived and ultimately controlled. You've given me much to think about.
Thank you Dr. Christian for your thoughts today. It is so true. In the old days, the TV would turn to snow so there was an end to all the “so called entertainment.” But not any more. We do need to live intentional lives and like the scripture says: “Teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Live to love God and people.
Loved metaphor of bubble we find ourselves & how it inevitably will burst!! Agree that our external world has become so invasive & dangerous to our mind, body and soul and we desperately need more consistent & powerful ways to get back to our Spirit 🙏 Thank you 💜
David Rockefeller said quite the opposite about the printed page encountered in newspapers; he thanked the great titles, eg the WP, NYT, Time, etc, for faithfully disguising the elite agenda over many decades; without which action, it would have been infinitely harder to achieve.
I think it would be wrong to imagine that everything we encounter online is simply one more bubble - rather, one has the ability finally to find information which spills out of the bubble and directly affects one's life, for example, I have learned many things about real history from the internet that I would never have learned from TV or standard history books - which are infinitely easier to fabricate and censor than some insignificant YouTuber who has spent years tracking down the real - but inconvenient - facts about some subject, whether it be 9 - 11, or the history of WW2.
I for one, then, celebrate the internet, which has finally burst the chains of deception we all laboured under in a past age, and which has released us into an era in which, if we concentrate and pursue a particular pathway, there is no limit to how much we can achieve.
Thank you for your comments. I think I can dumb "it" down by saying that, "life/lives" would still have serious issues and problems but there would be a better chance of success if our brains (including the nervous extensions, (five)) were living in the real world as do our bodies, at least most of the time. I kinda think that is what you are saying. ???
thank you Dr. Christian for this insight. Very timely as I was pondering this today myself. I feel that sometimes I scroll and search for common views, but this does nothing to impart change or any "good" really. Just thinking of this I came to a conclusion that it would be beneficial, for me to exit the bubble and live in the world God has placed me. I need to be more present to those around me. ( family ,friends, neighbors and larger community) In these real, true life connections we live as God has intended us. The real world of relationships. It is almost impossible to avoid all circumstances that you were speaking of but just to be aware is so powerful. When I start to feel agitated and defeated is when I need to step away.
Again thank you. I very Much appreciate your wisdom:)

That is an important point in my essay - the internet can be a good servant, but is a terrible master.
God bless you.

Thanks Francis, spot on, and very timely

I just read this in The Light and thought it was the essay to accompany this song from 2017
