Once again very well written.

You touch on an interesting topic: that people who have been here for generations have a unique place in our culture, and as you say are due some degree of deference.

I have always found it inconsistent (ridiculous?) that on the one hand, Canada is "all in" on UNDRIP and the idea that natives should have special rights. On the other hand, someone who can trace their history back to the Mayflower landing can have no special place compared to someone who crossed the border illegally yesterday.

On one hand, we preach about the special place of indigenous people and do land acknowledgements asking for forgiveness for being "settlers", while on the other hand inviting massive amounts of new immigrants to come and be "settlers" as well.

I don't know what the right balance is, but I do know that current leftist thought is self-contradictory, self-hating and destructive.

I hope for good things from the MAGA crowd. At least I think their hearts are generally in the right place. They love America, and that's a good start.
